Making the Digipak

Firstly I looked through my phone gallery on the days of filming, and I chose some pictures featuring my actors, and started experimenting with the layout. Finally, I came up with this:

For the part which has the CD I used the picture from the film camera, and added some motion blur, so it would be similar to the "step printing" parts of my music video at El Rastro.

It was extremely difficult to match the colours throughout all of the pictures, as they were taken with very different lightings and even on different mediums (film...phone...). So it took me a lot experimenting with hue and saturation and brightness and contrast and colour levels to make it look like it belongs together.

So I asked my friends what they thought of it...

I was initially thinking of doing something like this concept: (using paper and a scrapbook-y type of thing). But I didn't make any reference to this whatsoever in my music video, so it looks very out of place in the digipak.

So I scratched the idea, as my friends recommended.

And I tried a new one, using a screenshot of my music video, from a section filmed with the camcorder:

This one I scratched immediately. The camcorder quality is so bad and pixelated that it makes the digipak look extremely unprofessional. And there was a lot of contrast in the colours, so it would be difficult to make the text visible.

Then I had an idea, which I had previously used in the music video I made for the indie band. I could take a picture of the camcorder screen! That way the image quality would be better, and I could have a black border to add all the text.

And it ended up looking like this: which I was finally happy with.

Then I cleaned up the edges of the digipak, and added all the text.

  • The title "pink + white" in the front cover

  • The lyrics in the inside cover

  • All the publishing information in the back cover which all digipaks have
